Rocky Street(AUS) First Foals 2011 at Middlefield Stud
Rocky Street(AUS) first foals have arrived at Middlefield Stud, and they are lovely big individuals with even bigger pedigrees.
Rocky Street is by Rock Of Gibraltar who currently stands at Coolmore Stud in Ireland. He is a son of Danehill out of a Be My Guest mare. Rock Of Gibraltar set the track alight with 10 wins - and he became the first horse ever to win 7 consecutive Grade 1’s in the Northern Hemisphere breaking the great Mill Reef’s 30-year-old record. His include Gr1 2000 Guineas, Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas,Gr1 St James Palace Stakes, Gr1 Sussex Stakes, Gr1 Prix du Moulin, Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes; and a second in the Gr1 Breeder’s Cup Mile. He was given a Time Form Rating of 133, and has gone onto sire a number of Grade 1 winners and become a Sire-Of-Sires himself.
From his first 4 crops on the track he is already the sire of 39 Northern Hemisphere SW's including Grade 1 winners Society Rock, Mount Nelson, Diamondrella, Varenar and Eagle Mountain, Grade 2 winners Kitty Matcham and Gibraltar Blue and Grade 3 winners Samitar, Yellowstone, Genuine Devotion, Sweeter Still, Rock of Rochelle, Theann, Utrecht, Unilateral and High Rock.

To date she is the dam of 4 foals and 3 winners including a full brother to Rocky Street - who is a 2 time winner.
Rocky Street is 15.3hh, a well-balanced and nicely topped bay with a very good temperament.
It was a great disappointment that Rocky Street's racing career was hampered from day one with a latent defect which only came to light on the race track and finally resulted in surgery. He ran 3 places from 5 starts in South Africa, with his first race he was narrowly defeated by a length.
Lincoln Echo - by Fort Wood out of Next Edition by Russian Fox - is the dam of the first foal. She had 3 wins and earned R218,975 at 3 to 4 over 1400 - 1800m and placed 12 times. The third dam of Desert Fling is Belle de Jour(ARG) - whose foals include none other then Esplendor(ARG) - a successful sire in his time in South Africa. Esplendor(ARG) is a world record holder for 1400m, and was Second Leading First Season Sire in 1983. He had 8 wins in Argentina including numerous Grade 1 wins and places.
The third foal is out of Manzanilla - by Martinelli(USA) out of Salmantina by Cordoba(USA). Manzanilla is a 4 time winner of R299,650 and placed 17 times. Her dam Salmantina is a half-sister to Russian Pioneer and was a winner herself - and is the dam of 2 winners. Salmantina comes from a Argentine dam-line that has produced numerous champions in this country.
Her immediate dam-line has produced the likes of Eventuail(ARG) who was voted Equus Champion Older Classic Male in 2002. His wins include the SA Guineas Grade 1, The Summer Cup Grade 1, Premiers Handicap Grade 3, and he also won the Dubai Duty Free Stakes Grade 1. Emerald Beauty(ARG) is another - a winner of the Cape Fillies Guineas Grade1, the brilliant filly Escoleta Fitz(ARG) who was voted Equus Champion Older Classic Female in 2001. Her 10 wins over 1200 - 1900m include the Garden Province Stakes Grade 1, Cape Of Good Hope Paddock Stakes Grade 1.
Last but certainly not least to come from this brilliant family is the great racemare Empress Club(ARG).
