KZN had success with horses around the country over the weekend - with Seal taking home the Gr 3 Caradoc Gold Cup in emphatic style while King Of Kings had placings with Baracah in the aforementioned race, while Princess Julietta finished third behind Via Africa in the KZN Listed at Scottsville. Tellina, a grandson of Spectrum, finished third by less than a length in the Gr 1 Horse Chestnut Stakes behind Yorker at Turffontein.

Seal took home the Gr 3 Caradoc Gold Cup at Turffontein on Saturday by almost five lengths carrying top weight of 60.5kgs - giving the second horse Storm Warning (by Jet Master) an additional 5kg beating. S' il vous Plait finished third with Baracah fourth. Baracah is a half-brother to the ill-fated Goat by King Of Kings, bred by Vanessa William of Keivan Stud.

Martinus Mienie sent the Silvano gelding on his way at the 400m marker in the 2850m long race.

Seal had beaten reported coughing after his previous start, in the mud and slush of Guineas Day in the Listed Aquanaut Handicap, where Storm Warning had beaten him by almost four lengths. This time Seal galloped on powerfully to beat Storm Warning by by almost five lengths in a time of 184,56 secs. Seal finished second in this race last year to Masai Warrior.

Seal was born and raised at Warwick and Karin Renders' Bush Hill Stud for breeder Dr Ian Heyns.

By Silvano out of Rambo Dancer mare Prestine Performer, Seal sold for R210 000 on the National Two Year Old Sale and has now won 10 races in top company from his 40 starts with 14 places, earning R2 210 087 in stakes. His wins include the Gr 1 SA Derby, Wolf Power 1600 Listed, Gr 2 Gold Vase, Aquanaut Listed in 2013 as well as the Gr 3 Jubilee Handicap from Vodacom Durban July winner Heavy Metal.

Well done to breeder Dr Ian Heyns, owner Grant Douglas and trainer Gavin Van Zyl.

Resident broodmare at Rathmor Stud for breeders Basil and Betty Linington, Julietta, saw her daughter Princess Julietta (by King Of Kings) finish third under S'manga Khumalo to Via Africa on Saturday in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Listed. She finished just two lengths off, with All Is Secret placing second in slighly soft going.

Princess Julietta is owned by Brian Burnard and trained by Gavin Van Zyl. She has won twice and placed nine times - including two very close seconds in the Gr 3 Strelitzia Stakes to Royalsecuritybaby by a nose, and half a length off My Sanctuary in The Debutante Gr 2. She also placed behind Happy Valentine in the Gr 1 Allan Robertson Championship. She has only been out of the money twice from all her starts and earned R254 750.

Julietta, a big pretty chestnut broodmare with a white blaze and socks, (by National Assembly) foaled a Kahal filly last season. She is currently in foal to first season sire standing at Scott Bros - Gr 1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade(USA).

Trained by Geoff Woodruff - Tellina finished second controversially to another KZN-bred, Alesh Naidoo's Kahal gelding Love Struck (bred by Summerhill Stud), in the Gr 1 SA Classic. Tellina is the winner of the Betting World Gauteng Guineas Gr 2, as well as the recent Gr 3 London News Stakes.

Spectrum, standing at Yellow Star Stud in Mooi River, was recently back in the news as the broodmare sire of Australian Gr 3 winner Zanbagh.

Congratulations to all concerned on a great racing weekend.
