Toreador Unbeaten Filly Wins Gr3 Magnolia

Resident sire of Bush Hill Stud, Toreador, had a head-turning win with his unbeaten daughter Lazer Star thundering home to victory in the Gr3 Magnolia at Turffontein yesterday. The filly is out of Empress Of Ozz by Sri Pekan.

Bred by the Tawny Syndicate (owners of Toreador), Lazer Star has won all three of her starts - she debuted in June, winning at the Vaal by an incredible five and a half lengths over 1200m. Her second start saw her win over the same course and distance, by almost two lengths from Ntombe, an Australian Stratum filly.

Trained by Ormond Ferraris and owned by Mrs A Marwing, the R350 000 National Yearling Sales graduate was ridden by Weichong Marwing for an easy win the in Gr3 Magnolia over 1160m.

Lazer Star galloped relentlessly and drew off to beat 2013 Ready To Run Cup KZN-bred winner, Winter Star, by 3,25 lengths in a time of 66,31 secs. Another KZN-bred Pej (by Solksjaer) stayed on late for a nice third a further 2,25 lengths back with the Mike De Kock-trained Berlinetta fourth.

A proven sire, Toreador has had winners over the last couple of days at both Kenilworth and the Vaal.

Toreador has impressed with his stats at almost every sale this year, his yearlings continue to be in demand. Averaging R228 333 for each of his nine yearlings sold at the Nationals this year, he continued this momentum at the KZN Yearling Sale, averaging an admirable R123 889 at this sale. The recent TBA Ready To Run Sale saw his three two-year olds sell for an average of R140 000 each.

His first crop of KZN-bred foals are arriving this season, which include a smashing half-brother to another resident sire, Irish Flame.

The sire of Champion 2yo colt and Gr1 winner Link Man, his other Group winners include Deliver The Power, Jackodore, She's A Stunner, Roc 'n Rose and Las Ramblas. Toreador is the most successful son of Danehill to stand his stud career in South Africa.

Toreador stands for a fee of R15 000 this season.
