KZN Breeders Million Mile Field Announced

The final field for the KZN Breeders Million Mile has been released and it is an all-star cast once again this year, which includes last years winner - Emilio Baseiro's Mullins bay gelding - Gitiano.

The richest breeders' race in the country and one exclusively for KZN-breds aged three and four years old, previous winners include the likes of one of South Africa's all time great Gr1 winning and producing racehorse and sire - Jet Master.

Another is KZN's current Horse Of The Year, the daughter of Kahal, Festival Of Fire trained by Mike De Kock and ridden by Anthony Delpech is drawn eighth. Bred by Mr CJ Saunders and Lady C 'O Reilly, she is a multiple Group winner who took home the Gr2 KRA Guineas last year, as well as the two Gr3's back to back.

Clifton-bred Bezanova, by Bezrin out of Ananova by London News, finished just three lengths off Legislate in a recent Gr2 and Louis The King in the Gr1 second leg of the Triple Crown. He is a two-time winner over 1200m and 1600m, trained by Alec Laird.

The Sabine Plattner owned Xerxes has great recent form. The Muhtafal gelding has had two wins and two places from his last four starts, including a win at Greyville over 1600m.

The Duncan Howells trained Mogok gelding, King Of Torts, a half-brother to Vodacom Durban July winner Dunford is also a Gr3 winner this season, winning over this course and distance in the Christmas Handicap, with another entrant King Jace finishing second to him.

King Jace, by King Of Kings who has recently relocated to Jill Fox's The Fort Stud, was bred by Rodney and Lyn Clarkin and finished just two lengths off One Cool Dude over 1800m at Clairwood in the Gr3 Cup Trial. He is a four-time winner.

Another one to watch for is the chestnut Kahal gelding owned by Brian Burnard, the Summerhill-bred No Worries. A horse who finished second by a nose to Vercingetorix and left Capetown Noir in third in the Gr1 Daily News last year, No Worries also placed in the Vodacom Durban July last year, as well as the Gr2 Greenpoint Stakes and Queens Plate - just two lengths off Capetown Noir.

Another stand out is Bush Hill's Cataloochee gelding from the immediate family of their brilliant racefilly Zirconeum. King Neptune is out of Plutonium by Muhtafal, the mare being a half-sister to Gr1 winners Stellite and Zirconeum. Trained by Dennis Drier and owned by Mr and Mrs Muir, King Neptune has now won four starts and placed eight times - finishing three lengths off Gitiano in this race last year. His most recent win was at Greyville, taking home the Michaelmas Listed over 1900m and placing in the Easter Handicap Listed over 2000m at Clairwood.
