Backworth Stud and KZN-bred daughter of Kahal, Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Chocolicious, has foaled a leggy chestnut filly in New South Wales, Australia.

A mare who attracted plenty of attention at the Goff's November Sale due to her Southern Hemisphere covering date by Frankel, a 14-time winner who retired to stud with the highest ever Timeform Rating of 147.

Purchased for 400,000 Euro at the Goff’s breeding stock sale in Ireland in foal to champion racehorse Frankel, the then six year old mare was bought by Oliver St Lawrence.

Chocolicious was one of three offered at the sale in foal to Frankel bred to Southern hemisphere time, consigned for Darren Dance’s Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock by Ballyhane Stud. Unbeaten superstar Frankel, widely regarded as one of the greatest racehorses in history, currently stands at Banstead Manor in Newmarket, and has a stud fee of GBP 125 000 – or over R2.2 million.

Chocolicious (rated MR 105) won six races from 1000 to 1200m in South Africa, and placed in the UAE 1000 Guineas.

Bred by Keith Russon and Ian Todd of Backworth Stud, she is out of Gr 3 winning daughter of Exclusive Patriot named Candy Box - herself out of an Our Casey's Boy/Brer Rabbit/Tom Rolfe mare. Candy Box bred three winners from four runners, and descends from the family of Hot Cross Bun and Royal Wish.

Top Of The Chocs, a half-brother to Chocolicious by Miesque's Approval, turned on the speed just over a week ago, over 1000m at Champ de Mars to cement a confident third in the Supertote Trophy for trainer Hughes Maigrot with jockey Gerald Avranche up.

Congratulations to all concerned.
