The BSA Ready To Run sale Gallops were held at Yellow Star Stud on Thursday, which saw KZN's pretrainers Balmoral, Far End, Ambleway and Yellow Star put their catalogued horses through their paces in front of enthusiastic buyers from across the country.

Balmoral top the vendors with the biggest draft, consisting of approximately 75 horses. Amongst those is Lot 22, Kildonan's half-brother by Tiger Ridge. His dam Cathay Firth, arguably the best of Philippi's progeny, has produced seven winners from just eight runners. Kildonan stands at Yellow Star Stud and has launched his stud career with great success - including the Cape Racing Awards two year old winner Rosier - the winner of the Gr2 Debutante Stakes, saw her take home the Cape Racing Awards for Juvenile Filly Of The Year. Trained by Glen Kotzen, the speedy filly has had five starts, three wins (including the East Cape Fillies Listed) and a place, the latter in a Gr1 to Alboran Sea.

Another is Lot 75 Consensus, a half-brother to Stakes Placed Varlet and Private Collection. His dam, Miss Unimac(AUS), has produced six winners with 25 wins and counting between them all. Lot 17 also caught the eye, a lovely big Trippi filly named Nala, out of Kahal's brilliant Gr1 winning daughter Bold Ellinore. Bold Ellinore has produced two winners to date, including a full-sister to Nala named Ha Lucy.

King's Chapel has his first crop coming through as two year olds, and two of them stood out. The first consigned by Yellow Star, is a chestnut colt with a beautiful action named Steeple. Out of Indigo by West Man, his second dam is Prussian Blue - a four-time winning half-sister to Imperious Sue. His dam Indigo has produced three winners. This is a family rich in Bold Black Type, including Kelly, Royal Air Force, Gr2 winner Hidden Beauty (now residing at Rathmor Stud), Imbongi and Victory Moon.

The second was Lot 114, a beautiful grey filly out of Tsunami by Shaamit consigned under the Balmoral flag. An outstanding foal at birth, Reigning Wave displayed a lovely action. She is a half-sister to Aquinata (by Silvano), who sold at the 2013 National Yearling Sale for R900 000.

Far End Pre Training have the only colt by another first season sire in Just As Well, out of a Qui Danzig/Fort Wood mare Qui Sera. Third dam of Lot 86 is five-time winner (and a Gr3 winner) Popular Girl, this is the family of Winter Weather, Golden Dawn and Your Verdict.

Ambleway Thoroughbreds have a Western Winter colt out of Summerhill-bred Imperious Sue, winner of the Gr1 J&B Met. Lot 53 named Winter Prince is a half-brother to five winners, including Gr1 Woolavington 2000 winner Imperious Star, and shares the same dam-line as Lot 54 mentioned above.

Hosts of the gallops, Yellow Star have a lovely chestnut Var filly consigned out of Hit The Stars by Lizard Island. The mare has produced two runners and two winners to date, both previously by Brave Tin Soldier and Woodborough. This is the immediate family of Wood Be Magic, Gr1 Computaform Sprint winner Blushing Star and Corpe De Elite.

They also have the last crop of the deceased Second Empire, and the first crop of Second Empire's son Tropical Empire, both sires having stood at Yellow Star. Second Empire has amongst others produced Dubai success Star Empire, and winner of the 2013 Grand National Auroras Encore. Lot 36 by Second Empire is named Ole Gunnar, out of Duplicate by Our Casey's Boy. The second dam is Abriyna, dam of five winners including On The Roof(SNL), the dam of sire Badger's Drift amongst many other Bold Black Types.

Lot 57 by Tropical Empire from his first crop, is a filly named Daiquiri out of Camden Park mare It's Playtime. Her two previous runners by Bezrin have both placed - this is the family of Variety Show and Gr1 winner Model School. Yellow Star are also presenting two of the first KZN-bred two year olds by Spectrum - his progeny appear to be enjoying the Polytracks around South Africa.

The BSA Ready To Run Sale takes place on 2 November at the TBA complex. A sale that has previously produced the likes of Igugu and Pierre Jourdan, the videos of the gallops are available on their website at www.tba.co.za.
