Peter Blyth of Clifton Stud has reported the sad passing of Fort Vogue, a son of Fort Wood, in Dubai.

"I am very saddened to tell you all that my pride and joy horse, which I bred and sold for R2,2 million as a yearling called Fort Vogue, has died in Dubai. What a bitter pill for us to accept, especially knowing that he would have done us proud in Dubai.

"On July day last year he duly won one of the supporting feature races on the day. An offer was made for him, which was accepted by the owners and he was sold in to the Herman Brown stable, who campaign annually in Dubai and were looking for stock good enough to race there."

Fort Vogue died from a heart attack after a light workout.

A racing legend in his own right, Herman Brown Snr said: "He passed away in Dubai at Meydan racecourse after doing some light work. He had only just gone back into training after quarantine. At the pull up, all of a sudden he jumped up and went down a bank and by the time my son (Herman Brown Jnr) got to him he was dead. It was a quick heart attack, he didn't seem to suffer any pain because it was so quick. It is unfortunate but these things happen, it's all part of racing."

He had 6 wins and 8 places under his belt, including wins in the Grade 2 Peninsula Handicap and the Campanajo 2200 Grade 3. He ran second in the Midmar Premier Trophy Grade 2 and a fourth in the J & B Met Grade 1. He left South Africa with earnings of R778 030 and no doubt would have done South Africa proud in Dubai.

His dam Vogue, by Model Man, foaled another Fort Wood filly (a full sister to Fort Vogue) last season and will foal to Clifton's resident stallion A.P. Answer in 2012. She also has a Jet Master yearling, a filly, which Peter is aiming for the National Sales.

Vogue is herself a 5-time winner (and a second in the SA Fillies Sprint Grade 1) is a half-sister to several champions including 2003 Equus Champion Male Stayer Highland Night, Night Watch, Prince Asad and new sire Warm White Night. She was out of Highland Stud's famous, and now deceased mare Thousand Nights out of Champion stallion of his time, Foveros.

"This is an enormous blow for us, as Fort Vogue still had many wins in him and you can imagine what a boost every win would have been for Clifton Stud," Peter said.
