Rathmor-bred Split The Breeze won a brilliant race at Clairwood yesterday on debut by three quarters of a length over 1000m. The two year old colt is the first to win for the beautiful freshman sire, Brave Tin Soldier, at Summerhill Stud - a horse that lives up to his good looks and exceptional pedigree.

Bred by Mike and Tanya McHardy of Rathmor Stud - Split The Breeze was also the first yearling to sell at the 2013 National Yearling Sales from his sire, selling impressively for R200 000.

Split The Breeze is out of Baroon mare Time And Tide. This is an exciting catalogue update for the upcoming National Yearling Sales as Rathmor have bred and consigned a Var half-sister for the sale, Lot 109 named Timeous.

Time And Tide is a Gr 3 winner herself - the dam of winner Try Your Luck. The dam-line in this pedigree has been a highly successful one for Rathmor - second dam Lone Sailor is a half-sister to Grecian Gale, the dam of Rathmor-bred Grade 1 winning siblings Wendywood and Malteme.

Wendywood will be remembered for her incredible but short-lived racing career which saw her win the Gr 1 Woolavington 2000 from just her second start, and going on to finish just four lengths off Pocket Power and Dancer's Daughter in the 2008 Vodacom Durban July - her third and last start.
Sadly the filly died in training shortly thereafter and we will never know just how good she might have been - but she was still voted Equus Champion 3YO Middle Distance Female in 2008. Her half-brother Malteme won the Gr 1 Summer Cup and Gold Circle Derby Gr 2.

Congratulations must go to the connections of Split The Breeze, trainer and part owner Luiz Cunha, as well as Messrs J F Pieterse, Mesdames J Hickley & B A Roode.

Brave Tin Soldier topped the average for first season sires at the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale with a figure of R185 000 for each of his three yearlings.

To date Brave Tin Soldier has had six runners, a winner and three places from two runners.

A record-breaking $3-million USD weanling, Brave Tin Soldier, is a stunning bay stallion with a beautiful head and passing his good looks onto his progeny. He carries an immaculate pedigree which reflects his good looks - being by world champion sire Storm Cat out of Bless by Mr Prospector - his dam is a full-sister to Kentucky Derby winner and sire, Fusaichi Pegasus.

Achieving four wins, Brave Tin Soldier won the Blenheim Stakes Listed as a two year old and the Gr3 Cliff Hanger Stakes over 1700m at age five. Racing in the UK, France, USA and UAE, he also placed in Group company.

Brave Tin Soldier stands at Summerhill Stud for a service fee of R20 000 plus Vat last season. He is represented by six lots at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
