Fastnet Rock, sire of Klawervlei’s promising young sire Curved Ball who stands at Bush Hill Stud, became Champion Sire in Australia for the second time recently.

The son of Danehill, who had previously headed the premiership back in 2011-2012, picked up his second title with his runners earning over AUS $10.3 million in 2014-2015. This placed Fastnet Rock nearly $1.3 million clear of runner up Exceed And Excel.

Remarkably, Fastnet Rock’s Australian performers won 15 black type races this past season including the G1 1000 Guineas, G1 Flight Stakes, G1 Queensland Derby, and G2 Sandown Guineas.

It was double joy for Fastnet Rock, as his promising son Hinchinbrook also became Australia’s Champion First Season Sire for the same season.

Sons of Fastnet Rock enjoyed plenty of success during 2014-2015, with Hinchinbrook not only heading up the first season sires list but also producing G1 winner Press Statement in his first crop, while fellow Fastnet Rock sons Rothesay and Stryker finished fourth and tenth respectively on the first crop sires list.

Lot 101 sold for R230 000 at the 2015 KZN Yearling Sale.

Another of Fastnet Rock’s sons, the talented Smart Missile had yearlings fetch up to AUS$700 000 suggesting buyers have considerable confidence in the Fastnet Rock dynasty.

One of the world’s hottest stallions, Fastnet Rock’s 70 plus stakes winners also include 2015 G1 Investec Oaks winner Qualify and G1 Pretty Polly Stakes victress Diamondsandrubies.

Curved Ball, himself a former Gr2 Dingaans winner, will be represented by his first 2YOS this season and if this close relative of Champion Sire Marscay can live up to his superb pedigree then there is plenty to look forward to!

Curved Ball had a yearling colt sold earlier this year in January at the CTS Cape Premier Yearling Sale for R350 000, whilst a lovely big colt at the Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale sold for R230 000 [pictured right].

He has progeny available at the upcoming National Two Year Old Sale.
