Graceland Farm

Graceland Farm nestles on 70 acres overlooking its famous neighbour, SA's seven time Champion Breeders, Summerhill Stud.

It is the fulfillment of the long-term dream of media entrepreneur, writer and broadcaster Alec Hogg and his artist wife Jeanette.

The farm was acquired in 2009 after a lengthy search to find the ideal spot for their herd of high quality race mares. Mooi River in KZN was selected over SA's other horse breeding areas because of its rich soils and the temperate "mist belt" climate which closely resembles that of the ancestral home of the thoroughbred.

Graceland's operations have been shaped through the mentorship of a Trio of Champions - Mick Goss of Summerhill; the doyen of SA's trainers, Ormond Ferraris; and Hogg's long-time breeding partner, the late Dr Desmond Irwin. Inspiration has also been drawn from a lifelong study of the great Italian breeder Federico Tesio and visits to the world's grand old farms, including a recent tour of Kentucky.

The Graceland philosophy is to provide space for its horses; intensive quality care through qualified staff, veterinary and farrier consultants; and balanced pastures complemented through scientifically balanced concentrates and supplements.

Very much a work in progress, Graceland is currently home to seven mares, each of whom has been carefully mated to produce the farm's first full crop of tough, hard-running two year olds in 2014.
