Kahal Leading National Sires Log Former KZN resident Champion sire, the late Kahal is currently topping the National Sires Log by Stakes earned, almost R300 000 ahead of Dynasty after Uncle Tommy finished second in the Gr2 Supreme Cup for a stake of R1million. Uncle Tommy was Kahal's most expensive yearling ever sold at R2,4million, and the eight year old gelding has now won 12 times and placed 27, including several Stakes races and winning the Highveld Sand Challenge (Listed). With more runners in the new racing season than any of the Top 10 National Sires, Kahal not only leads by Stakes Earned but also has an impressive winners to runners percentage of 23.6%, well ahead of some of former Champion National Leading Sires on the log behind him. Kahal passed away last year at Bush Hill Stud and more recently his broodmare sire Green Desert, at Shadwell Stud. Both have left an incredible dynasty on the respective studbooks and will be missed. As a broodmare sire, Kahal is currently producing a winners to runners ratio of 25%. Kahal at the peak of his career stood for a fee of R50 000. At the upcoming KZN Breeders Awards, Kahal will be represented by Bountiful Harvest in the Outstanding 3YO Filly category, No Worries in the Outstanding Older Male, Outstanding Sprinter Male and Outstanding Middle Distance Male, as well as Pej in the Outstanding Older Female and Outstanding Sprinter Female. Other KZN sires that feature in the national leading sires log include Mogok, the sire of Wild One in fourth position, and Toreador in 11th.
