First Winner For Breeders Dr Carla and Grant Langley

KZN Breeders' Dr Carla Langley and her husband Grant Langley have bred their first winner, with the beautifully named Autumn Encore winning at Flamingo Park on Monday by an incredible 10.50 lengths over 1400m.

Owned and trained by Mr W G C Miller, the colt placed fourth on debut at Greyville and placed second by a head in his first start at Flamingo Park in the non-black type Kimberley Nursery, at odds of 80/1.

The incredible win on Monday under a ride from Jarryd Penny carrying 57kgs and a first draw, saw Jamiacanminnaloushe and Rich Approval place second and third.

The three year old gelding by specialist artificial surface sire Miesque's Approval is out of Rakeen mare Autumn Concerto.

The dam who is a winner and placed four times is a half-sister to Backworth Stud's four-time winning Blingle Bells, who is also stakes placed. The third dam is the great racefilly Enchanted Gardens, a five-time Gr1 winning filly who was voted ARCSA Horse Of The Year in 1985 and Champion 3YO filly. This also the female line of Dogwood and Capture The Wind, to name but a few.

Grant and Carla Langley live in Summerveld at their beautiful Langley Equestrian Centre and Forsyte Stud, with Carla being a specialist veterinarian in the Equine field and Grant having a degree and diploma in equine studies, as well as being a level 2 SANEF Instructor and FEI Level 1 coaches certificate - Grant competes and teaches in the upper echelons of competitive showjumping and provides Skills development for grooms.

The founder of Equis Veterinary Practice, Dr Carla Langley is an equine reproductive specialist and one of only four qualified equine internal medicine specialists in South Africa. She has worked hard at broadening her knowledge with regards to equine medicine, committing herself to extensive training and work experience both locally, and overseas.

As a consequence, Dr Langley has considerable skill when it comes to pre-purchase examinations, lameness evaluations, and the management of genetic defects in foals and yearlings.

Responsible for the first foal born via successful embryo transfer in KZN, Dr Langley is renowned as an expert in the field. She is one of the few vets in the region currently performing consistently successful embryo transfers.

Her talents don’t end there; Dr Langley also specialises in stallion management and semen collection, breeding with problem mares, foaling down, and neonatal intensive care for both cardiovascular and musculoskeletal conditions.

Congratulations to Carla and Grant on a fantastic achievement and we look forward to seeing more winners to come!
