Shadwell-owned Sires' Muhtafal and the now deceased Kahal.

KZN sires and breeders are currently leading several National Logs as of 19 October.

Recently deceased Kahal is currently heading up the National Sires Log by Stakes Earned. His runners have totalled an impressive R2 752 150 in Stakes earned - almost R300 000 more than Dynasty in second position and KZN-bred Jet Master in third. Kahal is well represented as a sire and broodmare sire at the upcoming Ready To Run Sales at both the BSA and CTS sales.

No Worries heads up as Kahal's leading runner, recently taking home the Gr2 Spring Joburg Challenge. Kahal also continues his domination on sand and artificial going, currently in second position on the National Log for both categories. On the sand Kahal's top-earner is represented by Uncle Tommy, who ran second in the Gr2 Emerald Cup in September whilst Storm Surf is the top-earner for Kahal on artificial going. As Leading Sire Of Three Year Olds by Stakes Earned, Kahal is once again present in fourth position.

A stallion who has consistently been in the top of the log nationally for the past few seasons, is Scott Bros' resident Miesque's Approval. A stallion whose stats compare with the best of them, it is fantastic to see his name leading as the National Sire By Stakes On Artificial Going, with Kahal a close second and KZN-bred Jet Master third.

Miesque's Approval is represented by the handsome dark-bay Melson, an impressive colt who sold for R300 000 at the 2013 KZN Yearling Sale. A half-brother to Gr1 Champions Cup winner Orbison, Melson has won his last two starts on the Polytrack at Greyville. He has yet to be out of the money from seven starts, trained by Mike Miller and owned by Messrs R Maingard, M L Jean Hardy, M J L Nairac, D I Scott, R M Scott & Baroness Bergmsa of Longford. Eton Square, a Gr3 winner who placed in the Vodacom Durban Jly (name has changed to Eton Blitz since being exported to Hong Kong), ran third at Sha Tin two days ago over 1200m.

Another pleasing national result is Jam Alley, heading up the Leading Sires By AEPR (out of the stallions standing in South Africa), standing locally at Hadlow Stud for St John Gray - headed up by Yer-Maan. Yer-Maan has now won eight times for owner/breeder/trainer St John Gray, his last three starts three times in a row at Turffontein over 1800m - 2200m.

Leading Sires Of 3YO's By AEPR is also represented by two KZN resident sires - the leader being the outstanding Muhtafal who has retired at Spring Valley Stud, followed by Summerhill resident Japanese sire Admire Main. Muhtafal, sire of Dubai Cup-placed Paris Perfect, maintains his high percentage of runners to winners with an impressive 45%.
