African Drum Beat Leading KZN Breeders Dressage Challenge

The KZN Breeders Dressage Challenge, being run in conjunction with KZN Dressage is currently being lead by African Drum Beat, ridden by Jennifer Smith for owner Vanessa Gilks, in the lead by seven points. Alvin's Ailey and Bella's Magic follow respectively.
The son of Damascus Gate competed in the KZN Breeders Dressage Challenge last year which was won by Golden Acres-bred Centennial and Heather Cochrane. Damascus Gate also stood at Golden Acres, now Yellow Star Stud.
In his heyday, African Drum Beat certainly saw some greats. He was trained by Corne Orffer, having 39 runs, a single win in his second start and 14 places - finishing behind Dynasty and Surveyor in the Gr1 South African Guineas and sixth behind Victory Moon on debut!
African Drum Beat, who also competes in Eventing at the highest level, is out of Karakorum by Instrument Landing - a half-brother to 7-time winning (and Gr3 King's Cup winner) Abernant Star.
The mare is out of a Drum Beat mare Tabor - coveted Thoroughbred competiton lines. Incredibly, the Karakorum produced 13 foals, 12 runners and 11 winners - four of them Black Type - Then Came Dawn, Mountain Lion, Mount Stewart and Abernant Star.
This is the damline of Sylvan Lady, Divine Act, This England and Sabina Park.
