St Petersburg continues to have success overseas with his progeny in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Macau. The weekend saw him get his first Gr1 win with Platinum Witness in the NZ 1000 Guineas.

St Petersburg has produced a dual Gr1 winner before with the likes of Solzhenitsyn(NZ) in Australia, this time he added a Gr1 win as the broodmare sire of Platinum Witness, who won well in the NZ 1000 Guineas over 1600m. Locally he had success with Gr1 placed Blushing Peter.

At Riccarton Park in New Zealand, celebrated a Gr1 success when the three year old filly Platinum Witness (California Dane-Chartreuse, by St. Petersburg) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainer Lisa Latta in the NZ$300,000 Gr1 NZ Bloodstock 1,000 Guineas over 1600m, over fellow fillies Darci's Dream and Belle Miraaj.

Platinum Witness, who was purchased for NZ$55,000 by Latta on behalf of long-time stable clients Lincoln Farms and Neville McAlister at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Monovale Farm, took her record to two wins (including the Listed CJC Canterbury Stakes) and five places (including the Listed Wanganui Guineas) from 10 starts for NZ$257,275 earnings.

St Petersburg is the only son of Nureyev standing in KZN and South Africa, out of the mare Miss Bold Appeal by Valid Appeal. A very good-looking, muscular dark bay stallion with an outstanding temperament, he is a half-brother to Triple Gr 1 winner in the USA, Jersey Girl as well as 8-time winner Partition and sire Bold Expectation in Australia. He belongs to the immediate family of Two Year Old USA Champion sire Foolish Pleasure, Beldale Lustre, Valid Expecations and Little Expectations.

St Petersburg won three races In Australia at age 3, 1000-1200m and placed twice. His wins include the Gr 3 VRC Chivas Regal Stakes (1200m) and the SAJC Fraar Handicap (1000m). He placed fourth in the Gr 1 VRC Lightening Stakes (1000m) and Gr2 Ascot Vale Stakes (1200m) before a tendon injury prematurely ended a career that was going onto great heights.

St Petersburg is the sire of 194 progeny to race, 99 winners (51.0%), five of them Stakes winners [*lifetime statisics]. His Stakes winners include Chartreuse (dam of Platinum Witness), 9-time winner Barlinnie, St Peter's Gift and Russian Conquest, Blushing Peter and Macua nine-time winner Fantasticprivilege.

He stands for a fee of R8 000 at Summerhill Stud.
