Unusual Foal Born At Milkwood Stud Share

Ian Robertson, Chairman of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association, had an unusually-coloured foal born at his Milkwood Stud in Port Elizabeth on the 9 November.

The filly, by Black Minnaloushe, is black in the front half of her body and bay on the rest. The foal, out of White Oleander by Lecture and with the foal's third dam being Lily Gray, derives from the family of Villandry, Ravishing (Jet Master's only son standing in KZN at Summerhill Stud) and Fort Defiance. The mare has had a previous colt by Tobe Or Nottobe.

The interesting colouring of this foal follows hotly on the recent birth of Rathmor Stud's famous white foal aptly named Gran Blanco born on 14 September this year. Their white foal with brown ears is by Kahal and he is now a big strapping colt. Mike and Tanya McHardy are very excited about his future prospects, being out of one of their best mares Perakeen, by Rakeen. The colt's parentage has been confirmed, and McHardy's are still receiving offers daily for this special colt. He is destined for National Yearling Sales however and will be popular with the public once he begins his racing career.

Perakeen's first colt, named King Cole (by King Of Kings), was sold for R130 000 at the Emperor's Palace National Yearling Sale. Perakeen has been covered by Miesque's Approval this season. Gran Blanco is her fourth foal, with two other colts - one by Miesque's Approval (a two-year old named Sanction) and a yearling by Var.
