The ill-fated son of Danehill who stood at Summerhill a few years back, Stronghold, has had two winners recently with Double Clutch taking home the Non-Black Type umThombothi Stakes over 2000m, whilst Yellow Star-bred Supercede took the honours at Greyville yesterday in the Umzinzi Handicap (Non-Black Type).

Paul Lafferty's miracle horse Double Clutch, contracted West Nile Virus about a year ago and almost saw him being put down after not being able to 'put one foot in front of another'.

It is the same disease that saw the demise of the great stallion Jet Master.

A big good-looking bay horse, Double Clutch came back to win after a 28 week rest in May 2014.

He has recorded an impressive race record since - totally three wins and two places, finishing fifth twice.

He is out of Northern Guest mare Incremental, bred by Derek Martin and owned by Ashley Williams.

Well done to Paul Lafferty on a tremendous training feat with this brave horse!

Four year old filly Supercede has an enviable race record - getting her sixth win yesterday in the Umzinzi Handicap for trainer Pat Lunn.

Supercede, bred by Yellow Star Stud out of Sweet Sequel by Casey Tibbs, has had 16 runs and only been out of the money twice, once on debut and finishing fifth to Same Jurisdiction in the Gr3 Flamboyant Stakes.

Sold as a weanling for just R30 000, she is owned by Mr M Destombes and has earned an impressive stakes of R441 525.

Stronghold, out of Mr Prospector mare Insinuate, left behind just two crops of foals before succumbing to colic and the discovery of an irreparable rupture on the operating table.

Stronghold was given the status of the leading Handicapper of 2007, taking home five wins including the Gr3 Supreme Stakes and Paradise Listed.

His four-time winning KZN-bred son Alareef, a Shadwell-bred out of a Machiavellian mare from a female line that includes Galileo, has been exported to Dubai and has placed twice from both starts.

Congratulations to all concerned.
