KZN-bred Noble Heir Aussie Colt On CTS Ready To Run Sale With the running of the Cape Thoroughbred Sale Ready To Run Gallops on Wednesday at Summerhill, a horse that stood out was a flashy Australian colt - a first foal out of KZN-bred Gr1 winning Kahal mare, Noble Heir. The Unnamed colt selling as Lot 118 is being consigned by Jane Thomas' Far End Pretraining Stables. Leading bloodstock agent and yearling inspector Kerry Jack picks up the story regarding the handsome colt that will go through the ring at Inanda Club on 18 October. "I bought him at the Melbourne yearling sale on behalf of a syndicate, specifically for the Ready to Run sale. Noble Heir was trained by Dennis Bosch and bred by Brendan Norman of Connington Stud. Although small in stature she was an extremely fast filly, and won the Gr1 Computaform Sprint. She was sold to Australian connections and later sent to Hard Spun who stands at Darley in America for US$35 000 as well as shuttling to Australia for a few years. The colt is quite an interesting international combination - American, South African and Australian!" Hard Spun (Danzig – Turkish Tryst by Turkoman) won seven races including the Gr1 King's Bishop, a race that Summerhill sire Visionaire also took home in breath taking fashion. A big stallion standing 16.3h, Hard Spun is Danzig’s last Gr1-winning son who sired more first-crop Stakes winners than any other stallion. The sire of seven Gr1 winners so far, including Eclipse Champion Questing and Arlington Million winner Hardest Core, he also produced 2015 Gr1 scorers Hard Not To Like and Hard Aces. Hard Spun is also the sire of South African Gr1 winner Ertijaal(AUS), who took home the Gr1 Cape Derby at Kenilworth and placed in the Gr1 Daily News 2000. Ertijaal is on his way to race in Dubai for the Mike De Kock stable and owner Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum. KZN-bred Noble Heir won eight races, not only bagging the Computerform Sprint but the Gr3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap. She also placed 18 times, including the Gr2 Camellia Stakes and Gr2 Senor Santa Handicap. Noble Heir was sold to Sean Buckley of Ultra Thoroughbreds who has also raced the likes of Perfect Promise, Dane Julia and Battle Maiden. Out of mare Irish Honour, her grey colour descended from her broodmare sire Kilconnel, in turn out of a Peacetime mare named Gala Honours – the second dam of Honour And Glory, Gia's Secret and Arabian Secret. This is also the damline of Child Model, Your Emminence, Heart Of A Lion and Bound By Honour. This is the second KZN-bred Gr1 winning daughter of Kahal to find her way to the shores of Australia, with Chocolicious having foaled a Frankel filly there last year too. Thirty progeny of Hard Spun sold at the recent Keeneland Yearling Sales for an average of US$155 000, approximately R2-million each at today's exchange rate. Broodmare sire Kahal, currently leading the National Sires Log (as at 27/09/2015 nhra.co.za), is also making headway as a broodmare sire with a current impressive conversion of 25% winners to runners.
